When I first began working with Andrew Miller more than twenty years ago, none of us could have imagined the extraordinary journey that would follow. Over the course of ten remarkable books, all published first by Sceptre and the first nine edited by the peerless Carole Welch, it was my privilege to represent his work and to see readers around the world respond to his singular voice.
The announcement that his most recent novel The Land in Winter — the final book we worked on together — has been shortlisted for the Booker Prize is a wonderful testament to the quality of his prose and the depth of his storytelling.
Although I am no longer his agent, I remain immensely proud to have been part of his publishing journey to this point, and I will be cheering him on as the prize process unfolds. We were last at The Booker Prize dinner together in 2001 when Oxygen was pipped at the post by Peter Carey’s The Ned Kelly Gang.
